It has to exist

  1. Evidence indicates knowledge of off-earth intelligence is suppressed, blacked out.
  2. Without knowing about a greater culture we exist largely in a primitive nativistic state analogous to a few tribes in the Amazon and elsewhere who have little knowledge of the outside world.
  3. There is a chance we may be able to request membership directly, bypassing the blackout.

What will it take?

The model of global cooperativeness required to join the galactic culture already exists in the Bahá´í faith as taught by Bahá´u´lláh, a Persian nobleman of the mid-1800's who abandoned a life at court and suffered persecution to bring his message of peace and unity to the world. Whether or not he was a divine messenger following in the footsteps of Abraham, Krishna, Moses, Zoroaster, Buddha, Christ, and Muhammad as he claimed, the Bahá´í faith with its five million or so followers worldwide is second only to Christianity in numbers today and due to Bahá´u´lláh's message of unity is unique among religions by (so far) never splitting along dogmatic lines into various sects. While this is neither a solicitation to join the Bahá´í faith nor a suggestion that the whole ball of wax including fasting and prayer methods et cetera would be requirements for galactic culture membership, the core values of the faith describe a sane global society that logically must be required:

For a global society to flourish, Bahá´u´lláh said, it must be based on certain fundamental principles. They include the elimination of all forms of prejudice; full equality between the sexes; recognition of the essential oneness of the world´s great religions; the elimination of extremes of poverty and wealth; universal education; the harmony of science and religion; a sustainable balance between nature and technology; and the establishment of a world federal system, based on collective security and the oneness of humanity.

These values are shared by many who may have never heard of Bahá´u´lláh however. Most "progressive" politics supports them and they are conversely opposed by reactionary or "conservative" voices favoring prejudice, disharmony, extremes of wealth in the face of crushing poverty, religion over science, disastrous abuse of technologies like nuclear power and weapons, armed conflict between nation-states and such separateness from any sense of oneness with humanity as to employ torture, for example. No sane galactic culture is going to admit a world like ours until those animalistic tendencies have been largely extinguished, no small task. But every journey beginning with a single step translates in this case to individuals understanding the consequences both positive and negative of joining galactic culture and desiring to take that step should begin by adopting the values required to be considered civilized among those other civilizations that we hope to one day join as peers.

One day, but probably not today. The evidence on most news channels would suggest we are far from civilized and grossly unqualified for galactic membership, but that doesn't mean it has to stay that way forever. You can take us all one step closer and join us with your pledge of civility (see Cultural Worthiness) and by adding your name to the Application for Galactic Membership. There is no charge but donations are always appreciated and help advance the cause. Most importantly, discuss it with your friends and spread the word. We don't know what the threshold requirement might be either in percent of world population (1%? 99%?) or some absolute number (10,000? 100,000? 100,000,000?) but we aim to discover it. It has to exist, despite the doubters and deniers, it is out there waiting for us.
